Accepting the situation

I personally find when something is forced upon me that I don’t like, I fight it. I will push it away or give it limited attention. But when something of such magnitude as Covid-19 emerges, it is with years of experience and knowing that resisting change does not work, I accept it. It’s a case of buckle up, move fast and embrace change.

The very first time we were in lockdown I accepted that Covid-19 was going to impact the Kinetic business. I knew revenue was going to plummet, that my team would start worrying about all the things they couldn’t control and that I needed to change the businesses focus quickly. Accept the environment, adapt and start actioning what one can control.

By accepting a situation, I find that new ideas and opportunities arise and my brain goes into creative mode. From acceptance comes creativity and ideas where you can reinvigorate the team, focus, and find new ways forward.

So, what are some of the things we have done? We’ve recruited talented consultants and expanded into IT recruitment services and overnight this has made a positive difference.  We offer programs for candidates who need assistance with changing career direction  and we’ve strengthened our partnerships with clients, not only supporting them with recruitment but actively promoting each other’s businesses.

This really is just a very small snapshot of what we have done. What I know from over 20  years of running a company and riding roller coaster economies is that if you don’t accept the situation, face reality and move forward, life will start looking bleak, fast. It’s a case of buckling up, moving fast and embracing change. So, acceptance of a change is vital – then focus!
